Iraq is slightly larger than the State of California, or twice the size of Idaho, has a population of 25,000,000—about the same as Alabama and Texas combined—and is bordered by Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Turkey. Iraq is predominantly Muslim, and has been defeated twice since 1990 by US expeditionary forces, once in 1991 to drive Iraqi invasion forces from Kuwait, and in 2003 to remove Saddam Husayn's dictatorship. |
